One of the legendary Texas Roadhouse's signature drinks, Kenny's Cooler, is a refreshing summer cocktail bursting with tropical flavors. The blue beverage was launched in the mid-2010s and is named after country singer Kenny Chesney.

With numerous chains spread across the United States, Texas Roadhouse is famous for its delicious cuisine, but it is also renowned for its tasty drinks. In July 2016, the food establishment announced its collaboration with Blue Chair Bay Rum to create a specially curated beverage.

Blue Chair Bay Rum was a relatively new brand founded in 2013 by country singer Kenny Chesney. On its tenth anniversary, in August 2023, Chesney spoke about the moments that led to its birth.

"It had been a magical day with all my friends down there, just drifting and laughing, listening to music. As the sun set, I literally thought, 'I wish I could bottle this up,'" he recalled.

"Obviously, I drink a lot of rum. I live the life, I guess. So I wanted a rum that was made in the islands, that was made of natural ingredients, that was something you could drink all day. I figured, why not?" the singer continued.

Three years after its launch, Blue Chair Bay Rum became a signature ingredient in what would become one of Texas Roadhouse's most popular drinks. Named in honor of the brand's founder, the fruity cocktail, now beloved across the States, was dubbed Kenny's Cooler.

Kenny's Cooler is a refreshing drink that pays homage to tropical island life and is perfect to enjoy on scorching summer days. The good news is, you don't need to visit Texas Roadhouse to enjoy this drink. You can make one at home with this Kenny's Cooler recipe.

You Can Stick to the Original Kenny's Cooler Recipe or Have Fun with It

The above ingredients for Kenny's Cooler have been highly recommended to achieve its original Texas Roadhouse taste. However, other fans of this cocktail have been a little more creative and flexible. For example, some use freshly squeezed lemonade instead of Minute Maid lemonade.

While that variation may differ slightly, it doesn't completely stray from the original Kenny's Cooler recipe. Additionally, some are okay with replacing Blue Chair Ray Coconut Rum with a similar brand.

  • If you like a fizzy or bubbly cocktail, try a lemon-lime soda or citrus-flavored sparkling water instead of Minute Maid lemonade.
  • If you fancy a frozen cocktail, combine the above ingredients in a blender with as much ice as you like — the amount of ice will depend on the consistency of the frozenness you prefer.
  • Add a touch of pineapple or mango juice for a more tropical kick.
  • Add a dash of raspberry or strawberry syrup for a berry flavor, and garnish with fresh berries.

There are more variations of Kenny's Cooler on the web; one even included the addition of a jalapeno slice or a dash of hot sauce. Although the original flavor remains beloved, lovers of Kenny's Cooler are encouraged to experiment to their hearts' content.
