Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 32 oz heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cups strawberries, cut into thin slices
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup fresh chopped strawberries for garnish

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.

2. Combine the cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.

3. Whisk together the egg whites, milk, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl until smooth and well combined.

4. Mix the wet and dry ingredients until smooth.

6. While the cake is cooling, prepare the cream filling. With a handheld mixer, whip the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form.

7. Pour the sugar, cream of tartar, and vanilla extract into the bowl with the whipped cream and continue to whisk for a few more minutes before setting the whipped cream aside to make the strawberry sauce.

8. For the strawberry sauce, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan, stirring well as the pan heats and the strawberries become soft and release their juices.

9. Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes. During this time, slice the now-cooled cake in half and spread a generous layer of whipped cream.
