Penn Station serves a lot of delicious deli food. While customers have enjoyed this restaurant's sandwiches for decades, they've also loved its one simple dessert: the Penn Station chocolate chunk cookie. Here's how to make it.

Before Penn Station was Penn Station, the food establishment first opened its doors in 1983 at Dayton Mall in Ohio. Back then, it was known as Jeff's Delicatessen, named after founder and owner Jeff Osterfeld.

It wasn't until 1985 that Osterfeld opened the first Penn Station restaurant in downtown Cincinnati. The company has since grown exponentially, with over 300 locations across 15 states.

Penn Station has primarily focused on serving customers delectable sandwiches. Eventually, though, they introduced their chocolate chunk cookies, which are fresh-baked daily. If you want to recreate this delicacy in the comfort of your home, follow the step-by-step guide below. Happy cooking!

Penn Station Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional but recommended for the classic taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and line your baking sheet with either parchment paper or silicone.
  2. Mix your butter, granulated, and brown sugars in a large bowl with an electric mixer until frothy.
  3. Add one egg at a time and beat the mixture thoroughly after each.
  4. Add your vanilla extra and mix well.
  5. Grab a separate bowl and combine your flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
  6. Pour it into your wet mixture and beat until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  7. Add your chocolate chips and walnuts and mix.
  8. Scoop spoonfuls of the cookie dough onto your baking sheet, ensuring you leave enough room for each cookie to spread.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown.
  10. Once ready, take them out of the oven and leave them for about 5 minutes to firm, then enjoy.
